Activecampaign Pricing — Which Plan Is Right For You?

If you’ve never heard of Activecampaign before you’re in for a treat. Activecampaign is one of the best email marketing tools around, and is one of our very favorites. One of the best features offered by the company is the variety of plans to choose from. Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all solution to email marketing, they offer customers a selection of four plans with varying benefits and pricing.

But how do you know which plan is the right one for you? If you start with a smaller plan will it scale as your subscriber pool grows over time?

In this article we cover the ins and outs of the Activecampaign pricing model as well as the benefits offered by each of their four plans.

What Are The Activecampaign Plans?

Activecampaign offers its users four plans to choose from. These plans are Lite, Plus, Professional, and Enterprise. Each plan offers a range of benefits and services, with Lite offering the fewest and Enterprise offering the most.

Each plan above Lite offers all of the benefits and services of those in the tiers below it, meaning that Enterprise offers all of the services and benefits.

Services And Benefits For Each Plan

To really give you a clear picture of what each plan offers, here is a breakdown of the benefits and services in each one. These are broken down into four categories for each plan.

Additionally, you can choose to see features for three business models: B2C (business to customer), B2B (business to business) and Ecommerce. The benefits listed below can be found under the B2C category. Phew! As you can see, each plan offers a ton of benefits — even the most basic Lite plan!

How Does Activecampaign’s Pricing Work?

The pricing for each works on a sliding scale that corresponds to the number of contacts in your email list. This is a great feature because while most mail services separate their plans based on contact volume, Activecampaign allows you to purchase the smallest (and cheapest) plan even if you have >100,000 contacts.

When you navigate to the page on Activecampaign that compares each plan, you will find a sliding scale close to the top of the page. This scale represents the number of contacts you have in your mailing list. The smallest number of contacts available is 500, but don’t worry— you should think of this number as the upper limit for that particular price. You can absolutely have fewer than 500 contacts to take advantage of the plan.

As you adjust the sliding scale you can scroll down to watch the prices increase or decrease for each of the four plans offered by Activecampaign. You may also notice that you have the option to toggle a “billed yearly” button below the sliding scale, depending on whether or not you prefer to pay a lump sum or on a monthly basis. However, please note that if you choose to pay on a monthly basis the price per plan increases slightly.

When the smallest number of contacts (500) is selected, the prices are as follows:

Lite: $9/ month

 Plus: $49 / month

Professional: $149 / month

Enterprise: $258 / month

When using the sliding scale, you’ll notice that you can only adjust to certain values as you play with the slider. The available number of contacts on the scale are:

  • 500
  • 1,00
  • 2,500
  • 5,000
  • 10,000
  • 25,000
  • 50,000
  • 75,000
  • 100,000
  • >100,000

We won’t go through the pricing for each option, but here are a few more to give you a clearer idea of the pricing structure:

For 1,000 Contacts:

Lite: $29 / month

Plus: $49 / month

Pro: $149 / month

Enterprise: $258 / month

As you can see, the price only changed for Lite here. As you continue to increase the number, however, the price for the rest will increase.

For 10,000 Contacts:

Lite: $138 / month

Plus: $229 / month

Pro: $339 / month

Enterprise: $538 / month

As you increase the numbers beyond 10,000, you may notice that some plans will stop listing a price point. Instead, they will display this message: “Let’s customize a plan that’s right for you.” This message will be followed by a button labeled “Talk to Sales.”

Activecampaign Plans Summary

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or still a bit confused about which plan is right for you, don’t worry. We just threw a ton of information at you! To help you sort through it all, here’s a quick summary of each plan and who we feel each plan could work best for.

Lite: The light plan is a great option if you have a small company with a small team. Ideally you would only have one person running point on the mailing list because this plan only allows for one user. Despite the fact that this is the smallest plan you still get a ton of customization options and social media integration.

However, one of the downsides of the Lite plan is the fact that certain elements (forms, confirmation emails) have Activecampaign logos in the bottom. This can be fixed by using HTML to add your forms, though.

Plus: If you have a larger team with more people handling the mailing list then Plus might be a better plan for you. You can also send SMS and get custom Facebook Audiences. Additionally, the Plus plan lets you edit your landing page which is a huge plus (pun intended!).

Professional: This plan lets you have 50 user accounts, which is ideal if your team is big and so is your mailing list. This plan comes with an in-depth attribution analysis which will help you really customize your marketing approach. This

Enterprise: Lastly we have the Enterprise plan, which is the largest and most expensive. This is great if you’re working with a big budget and have a lot of employees who need access to the email marketing. One of the biggest bonuses that comes with the Enterprise plan is the custom phone number that you can use for sending and receiving SMS. You also get unlimited one on one training with this plan, which can go a long way in helping you hone your marketing technique. You also get free design services with this plan which is great for finding that custom look you want for your emails.

Related FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions about Activecampaign’s pricing.

Is ActiveCampaign pricing per user?

In a sense, yes. Each plan offers more user access, so in that sense yes. The Lite plan works for 1 user, the Plus plan for 25 users, the Pro plan for 50 users, and the Enterprise plan for unlimited users. That being said, however, you cannot simply pay per user.

Which is better Mailchimp or ActiveCampaign?

Both are great services and Mailchimp is sort of the OG for this kind of thing, but Activecampaign definitely offers better marketing automation, higher deliverability, and list management. On the other hand, Mailchimp lets you customize the design of your emails and is cheaper if you have fewer contacts on your list.

If your focus is on marketing and managing an email marketing campaign for a lot of contacts then Activecampaign is probably better for you, but if you are focused on aesthetically pleasing emails and have a smaller number of contacts to reach then you might prefer Mailchimp.

Does ActiveCampaign have a free version?

Yes and no. Activecampaign doesn’t have any version that permanently gives you access to their services for free. They do, however, offer a free trial of their services so that you can test everything out. This free trial lasts for 14 days and lets you test out the Activecampaign platform with up to 100 contacts and 100 email sends.

If you choose to use the free trial, make note that the features you have access to are aligned with those available when you sign up for the Professional tier plan, so if you’re only considering paying for Lite or Plus (or can only afford these), make sure you don’t fall in love with some of the Professional features.

Also note that some features aren’t available during the free trial. These include:

  • Predictive Sending
  • Sending auto-response campaigns
  • Custom fields in forms
  • “Email Results” in subscription forms
  • SMS credits or sending

Does ActiveCampaign integrate with Mailchimp?

There are a few ways to integrate Activecampaign and Mailchimp, but most of these involve third party softwares or services that specialize in product integration. It is possible to migrate contacts and a few settings/features from Mailchimp to Activecampaign, but the process requires a bit of set up.

In Conclusion:

Activecampaign is a great service and has four great plans to choose from. Depending on how much you’re interested in spending, how many contacts are on your mailing list, and how many features you’re looking for, you’re sure to find a plan that fits your specific needs.

In our opinion Activecampaign is a great service for anyone who is serious about their email marketing campaigns. As the plans increase in price and tier, the services offered really are phenomenal, especially at the price point that Activecampaign offers them. We would even argue that some of the features, like the unlimited one on one marketing training offered in the Enterprise plan— are incredibly valuable. That service alone makes considering Activecampaign worth it in our opinion.
